This year, I am looking forward to summer more than ever. After my first year of full-time teaching, I am SO ready for some spontaneous, unplanned summer FUN! During the school year, I live a life of lesson plans, schedules and routines-- so I love being able to let go when the weather gets warmer. When Brandon and I have a free Saturday (which feels rare, these days), we love spending that time outside being a tourist in our own city!
When Brandon and I have a free Saturday (which feels rare, these days), we want to get out of the house but we often feel like we don't know what to do. Our favorite way to spend a spontaneous Saturday is to be a tourist in our own city of Baltimore. We wind up making the best memories this way.
Our favorite drink to enjoy in the summer is an Ice Cold Coca-Cola™. We headed to CVS to pick two bottles for our spontaneous day of adventure. I love the names that are on the Coca-Cola bottles..and this year, they added LAST names too! So creative! I can't believe there are over 1,000 names! We used our CVS Extracare Card to get 2 for $3-- perfect for sharing a Coke with a friend!
Brandon loves regular Coca-Cola, while I always opt for a Coca-Cola Zero™. There's just nothing like an Ice Cold Coke to accompany you on your summer memory-making adventures.
Tips for Being a Tourist In Your Own City //
Go on a street art hunt // We like to get in the car and drive until we see an interesting piece of street art. We found a super cool piece that was SO close to our house. While we were there, we were able to actually meet some of the people who were involved in creating the art...SO COOL. I love spontaneous meetings and conversations like this!
Explore a new neighborhood // We love exploring new neighborhoods in our city. I love that there are so many places we haven't been before. It's so fun to see things for the first time. We explored a new neighborhood this weekend and found some awesome historic mills-- it was SO much fun!
Try a new restaurant or coffee shop // It's so funny how trying something new can totally open your eyes to how awesome your city is. We've been trying to try out a new restaurant every weekend this year-- and so far we have been SO surprised and excited at how much we find ourselves making so many fun memories at these new places!
Show a new friend around // It's so crazy how showing someone around who isn't from your city or is new can open your eyes and give you some amazing memories. The touristy parts of Baltimore may seem old news to me, but to my friends who just moved to Baltimore, they think it's super cool. I love how even though Brandon has lived here for 2 years now, he still finds so much enjoyment from the more touristy parts of Baltimore. Why not share an ice cold Coke with your friend while you show them around? (;
Go on a photography scavenger hunt // There's nothing like getting behind a camera to change your perspective up on your city. There is something about getting behind the lens that can totally show you what's right under your nose. Brandon and I both love photography and our hunts for some awesome Instagram-worthy photos have taken us to hiking trails, abandoned buildings, beaches, mountains, alleys, rooftops and more. It's always a spontaneous adventure when you're hunting for the perfect picture!
