Happy Earth Day! We all need to do our part to reduce the imapct we make on the planet, so I've compiled a list of 30 things you can do TODAY, RIGHT NOW to make an impact for the better. You don't have to be a vegan, hippie who lives in a tiny house and eats mung beans all day to care about the planet (though if you are a mung bean eatin' hippie in a tiny house-- props!)
// Unplug any electronics that you aren't currently using. GO!
// This week, try to buy at least one thing organic that you normally wouldn't.
// Look up local farms or places that sell local produce in your area. Buy from them!
// Wash your clothes in cold or warm -- but NOT hot -- water.
// Eat vegan for one day this week. It's easier than you think!
// Start recycling.
// Start composting.
// Plant a tree.
// Grow your own herbs-- or your own veggies.
// Carpool whenever possible.
// Try hang drying your clothes. I've actually tried this and it wasn't too bad!
// Stop using plastic water bottles and invest in a cute reusable water bottle, like this one from Faucet Face.
// Bring your own thermos to the coffee shop.
// Avoid Styrofoam like the PLAGUE.
// Bring your own bag to store instead of using plastic.
// Replace your light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs.
// Buy secondhand. Shop at thrift stores, thredUp, eBay and craigslist. Or go without, or borrow.
// Walk into the restaurant instead of sitting in the drive-thru, which creates more pollution. Make sure you bring your own reusable water bottle for your drink (;
// Pick up any and all litter you see.
// Turn down your thermostat and use blankets and sweaters instead. Turn up the thermostat when it's hot, and use fans instead.
// Make sure your tires are properly inflated. When your car is running efficiently, you don't need as much gas.
// In fact, try to go a whole day without your car. Or try the whole week!
// Pay your bills online. Ask to for companies to stop mailing you junk mail HERE.
// Take showers instead of baths.
// Buy fresh instead of frozen this week. Frozen food take more energy to produce.
// Work from home when you can to reduce your carbon footprint.
// Search with Ecosia-- my favorite search engine that plants a tree with every search. I use it instead of Google!
// Donate money to an environmental group.
// Go outside and enjoy the earth.
// Tell a friend how and why we need to conserve energy.
