How to Host An Epic Movie Night

Lately, we're trying to save money. Which means that this summer, we're opting for weekend trips instead of our normal vacation, making dinner at home instead of going out to eat, and having stay-in date nights instead of going out and spending money....which means we've had to get creative with our date nights.

Y'all. I had a heck of a semester. I felt like I was constantly running around and never was able to be home! So I knew a movie night was absolutely the perfect way to kick back and finally enjoy the freedom of summer. Since I didn't really have much time to watch movies during this past semester, I am definitely ready to catch up on all the movies that I missed! A movie night is a great way to do that, and as a really inexpensive way to relax and spend time with the people you love!

Another way we're saving money this summer is by trying out Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan.

This plan includes Unlimited Text, Talk and Data, which includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE per line for only $49.88. An awesome added bonus is that a free movie on VUDU every month is included ($7 value). Right now, the Starter Kit is on rollback for $19.88 (Originally $25!). Since Family Mobile bills you later, we started service on our phone the same day we bought our phone for only $19.88. Having all this extra data lets me use our GPS while hiking or listening to music while going on runs this summer!

I wanted to try out a phone that stuck in our budget but also had all the capabilities of a smartphone that I was used to. That's why I chose the Cool Pad Rogue, which was only $19.88 (Originally $39.83). I actually really loved how compact this phone was and all of the smartphone features it included for being so affordable.

With saving all this money on phones, it's time to share how to save money by having the most epic movie night EVER!

1. Build an epic fort!

Forts are for kids? Think again, y'all. We had a BLAST making this fort and we left it up for a while. There's a few different ways to make an epic fort, but we opted for the good old-fashioned chair technique. You'll need:

  • 4 chairs
  • Lots of heavy books
  • Lightweight sheet
  • Pillows
  • Lots and lots and lots of blankets

We draped the sheet over the chairs and used our sofa as reinforcement. Make sure the sheet is pulled taut and use lots of heavy books to hold the sheet in place. You may think it sounds childish-- but trust me, building a fort together is SO. MUCH. FUN.

TIP: Plug in a small fan nearby to keep you cool inside your fort!

2. Make a french fry bar!

For an epic movie night, you're gonna need snacks. Popcorn? Ice cream? Pizza? Been there. Done that. How about a FRENCH FRY BAR?! French fries are my favorite food so we made a ton of frozen french fries and whipped up a few sauces to dip them in. A few to try are:

  • Roasted Red Pepper Sauce (Roasted peppers + red wine vinegar + olive oil)
  • Creamy Siracha (Vegan mayo + Siracha)
  • Honey Mustard (Dijon mustard + maple syrup)
  • Sweet and Sour (Apricot preserves + white wine vinegar)

3. Mix up a drink.

If you're gonna have salty french fries, you're gonna need something to sip on. My favorite drink in the summer is sweet tea. However, you don't have to stick with simple sweet tea (though you could, because it's delicious!) Here's some awesome add-ins that you can throw into your cup of sweet tea:

  • Lemon
  • Mint
  • Ginger
  • Honeysuckle
  • Sorbet (Drop a scoop in your glass and sip it as it cools your drink!)
  • Fruit juice (Peach or raspberry!)

4. Set the mood!

If you're going to have a movie night, you're going to want to dim the lights. What better way to keep the movie theater ambiance but with summer scented candles! The scents I used were "Peaceful Waters", "Mango" and "Tahitian Sunset". Just make sure that you keep your candles away from your blankets...or LED candles and some summer scented air freshener works too (;

5. Pick an awesome flick.

Lastly, you need to pick an awesome movie. To have an epic movie night, you gotta make sure that you'll both be interested in the movie you're watching. With our free movie on VUDU included in our Family Mobile plan this month, we decided to rent Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which we were able to streamfor free right to our TV!  It's something I had really been wanting to see and Brandon saw it in theaters and definitely wanted to see it again. I loved it!

What are your top movie picks this summer?
